Max and Mona

Traditional beliefs say that the souls of the dead will not join their ancestors until the mourners cry at their graves. Max from a South African farming community, has inherited his grandfather’s talent for mourning. Max and Mona is a coal black comedy about this village boy with extraordinary mourning skills, who journeys to Johannesburg to become a doctor. But his riff-raff uncle, Norman, a “Razor” sharp gangster, a transvestite mortician, a beautiful girl and Mona the goat, ensure that he receives a baptism of fire.
