Denim

Denim is a South African group made up of Bo Demin, Titan Baldwin, Tumi.

Widely regarded as one of SA’s Top Live Acts, DENIM have a string of hits to their name, and performances at some of the most prestigious events in South Africa. The group has received numerous accolades for both their music and their performance and passion.

The group’s early beginnings started unofficially in 1992 when four of the original members sang together in the school choir at Mapetla High School in Soweto . They formed a group called Four Man Act, and steadily built an identity for themselves through stunning live performances and hits like “Karabo”.

In late 2000 they signed to a professional management company in South Africa and shortly thereafter were invited to perform for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund. Four Man Act finally got the attention of the mainstream market, which lead to a phenomenal year for the group and a nomination in the R&B category at the Metro FM Awards.

In 2002, Four Man Act had a line up and name change and Denim was formed. They released their first single “Let’s Go Dancing ” (Kool & The Gang) to radio which elevated the band to another kevel.

Over the next few months they recorded their first album and did two trips to Europe where they performed over fourteen shows in some of the hottest clubs in Zurich, various festivals and international conferences as well as conducted numerous public appearances and media interviews. During their last trip they shot the music video for their first single “Let’s Go Dancing take” (Kool & The Gang), which received extensive coverage on South African television.

In 2003 DENIM had already earned the label of “SA’s Top Party Band” through their live performances and the growing demand for the group finally saw them release their first album “… In the making” with it’s five phenomenal singles“I’ve Got What You Want”, “Msheli Wakhe”, “ Let’s Go Dancing”, “Like A Bird” and “ No Ordinary Love”.The album consists of 14 tracks and is a literal “wish-list” of South Africa ’s finest artist including Johnny Clegg, Gloria Bosman, Vicky Sampson, George Phiri, Dr Victor, Adam & Bez, Alexis Faku and Verny Scholtz.

They have wowed audiences at clubs and festivals both across the country and abroad including shows in Swaziland, Botswana, England and Dubai. They spent almost six weeks during August and September 2005 travelling across England, Ireland and Dubai, where they were invited to perform at numerous clubs and festivals including the world renowned Notting Hill Carnival.

On their return to SA in 2006, DENIM got straight back into studio to record their album Full Circle. 2007 started with a bang when DENIM released their hit single “Cant take my eyes off you” which saw the band dominate the number one position of many radio stations across South Africa and hitting record sales in its first few weeks of release. Follow up singles “Without You” and “When The Sun Goes Down” saw the album catapult the band onto another level.

Their new album will be released in September 2010.

DENIM have written and produced various tracks for television, including the theme music for Take 5 and Kids News Room. They have strong ties with Reach for a Dream, TheVariety Club and CHOC, but have also worked with many other worthy charitable organizations, and most recently they have been actively involved in Greening programmes with the Miss Earth Foundation. They are produced by G3 Records.
